P. Intl. Jabung L.: Upgrading Version 9.1 to 9.2
A major technical upgrade of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne from version 9.1 to 9.2 was executed, covering six core business modules. This involved migrating and retrofitting all existing custom applications and business functions to ensure full stability in the new environment. Additionally, a comprehensive knowledge sharing program on 9.2 UDOs and Orchestrator was delivered, enabling the client to modernize their workflows and leverage the latest automation features of Release 25.
Tech Stack
Overview
A major technical upgrade of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne platform from version 9.1 to 9.2 (Release 25) was executed. The project focused on migrating a highly customized environment across six core modules—Finance, HR, EAM, Procurement, GA, and Inventory—while ensuring that all business processes remained consistent and uninterrupted.
Challenges/Problems
- Custom Object Complexity: A vast library of existing custom applications, tables, business views, and Business Functions (BSFNs) had to be moved to the new version without losing functionality.
- Risk of Business Disruption: Upgrading core modules like HR and Finance carries a high risk of operational downtime if the custom logic behaves differently in the 9.2 environment.
- Technical Compatibility: Ensuring that legacy custom code remained compatible with the updated 9.2 technical stack and “Release 25” architectural changes.
Solutions
- Comprehensive Retrofitting: All custom & standard objects—including Applications, Reports, and C & NER Business Functions—were meticulously migrated and retrofitted to ensure they functioned perfectly in the 9.2 environment.
- Parallel Environment Testing: Rigorous testing was conducted to ensure that the “look and feel” and the underlying logic of the custom applications remained identical to the previous version, providing a seamless transition for end-users.
- Full-Stack Migration: The migration covered the entire custom object lifecycle, ensuring that data integrity was maintained across all modified tables and business views.
- Modernization & Knowledge Transfer: Conducted deep-dive knowledge sharing sessions on 9.2 User Defined Objects (UDOs) and Orchestrator capabilities, empowering the client to transition from legacy customizations to modern, low-code automation.
Key Impact
- Future-Proof Infrastructure: The system was successfully moved to the latest JDE Release 25, allowing the client to leverage modern 9.2 features while keeping their unique business logic intact.
- Seamless Transition: 100% of custom business processes were preserved, resulting in zero learning curve for users and no disruption to critical operations.
- Stability & Performance: The upgrade resulted in a more stable environment with improved technical support and modern platform capabilities.
- Skill Empowerment: The client’s internal team gained the expertise to manage and create modern UDOs (Grid Formats, Watchlists, Orchestrations), reducing their dependency on heavy code-based customizations.
